Zuda Comics : User Generated Talent hits the comic’s industry

You love to write, conceive and animate comics but just don’t know how to sell them. Zuda Comics is for you and will launch in October 2007.

DC Comics, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, announced yesterday that they will open up to new talents and let people upload and share their cartoons in a variety of segments : from humor, romance, science fiction, fantasy and superheroes. DC Comics publishes comics like Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, Green Lantern and the Justice League of America. Paul Levitz, DC Comics President & Publisher says :

There is an explosion of creativity in web comics.

They will review them, make a selection, give them awards, produce some of them and hope to create new stars in the industry. Here is a good review of who and what Zuda is about. There is no evidence so far that they will take ownerships of rights of these new talents – which i guess would come down to a negociation – and i would give them a few months before saying that Zuda is a mistep. Here is another initiative to capture User Generated Talent and create revenues from that new content.
