Microsoft acquires Danger to strengthen its mobile services

Robbie Bach, president of the Entertainment and Devices Division, announced today at the WMC in Barcelona that Microsoft acquired Danger. Over the past 12 months, it is Microsoft’s 3rd acquisition in the mobile space after Screentonic and Musiwave.

Danger, a California based company

provides services that allow people to keep in touch, stay organized and keep informed while on the go through real-time mobile messaging, social networking services and other applications – all blended together on a single phone that is intuitive and customizable.

Danger is privately held and the price was not mentioned.

Microsoft’s mobile division will continue to grow software and services to make it happen in the mobile space : from what you do at work to what you do at home. The mobile will replace the PC. Get ready!

Micorsoft also released sales figures for Windows Mobile: 14.3 million units in calendar 2007, targeting 20 million units for their fiscal year ending June 30th, 2008. Although they signed Sony Ericsson Xperia X1, the total volume is still low compared to the number of phones sold worldwide.
