Will Amazon really help entrepreneurs’ start-ups take off?

I heard that Amazon has developed great services to help companies manage some of their infrastructure, online-software services such as storage or access to computing power. I can’t evaluate the benefits from a business standpoint. Anyhow, to get these services known by entrepreneurs, Amazon is launching a contest : the start-up challenge . The top 5 projects from entrepreneurs will win up to $50,000 in cash, $50,000 credit toward Amazon Web Services.

Here are 5 key benefits i can see in applying for the contest :
1. your business may become “applying for contests”, and not this great idea that you initially had.
2. if you win, at least, you ‘ll bring revenues up to 50 000$
3. if you win 100 times in a row, you could avoid having venture capitalists sitting at your company’s board.
4. you’ll spend road shows promoting Amazon Web Services rather than your company.
5. you’ll already know how you’ll spend the $50 000 : on additional Amazon Web Services…

…if you’re still in business after all this, i’ll buy you a $5 beer 🙂
